The Niccone river runs along the Niccone valley where it later joins the River Tiber in the town of Umbertide. The Niccone valley is where Tuscany meets Umbria, a region known as ‘the green heart of Italy’ and with a landscape of rolling hills covered with cypress, olive, pine and oak trees which give the area a variety of stunning colour throughout the seasons.
Umbria has been inhabited by many people throughout History; from the Etruscans and Romans through to medieval tribes and Renaissance artists. There is a wealth of historical interest nestled amongst the two well-known towns of Assisi and Perugia as well as in the smaller towns of Cortona, Montone, Todi, Gubbio and Città di Castello – they are full of frescoed churches and important historical buildings.
